Abstract

When you hear the word hero, in general, most people will define heroes as people who are elected and have proven to be of great service to this country, by sacrificing everything they have for the sake of the nation and state, like Ir. Soekarno, Jenderal Sudirman, I Gusti Ngurah Rai, Teuku Umar, and so on. This is following by the definition of the word hero stated in Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI) which has three meanings, namely 1) a person who stands out for his courage and sacrifice in defending the truth; 2) gallant warrior, and 3) hero. In addition to courage and sacrifice in defending the truth, a hero figure also has an attitude of patriotism, nationalism, and an attitude of always putting the interests of the nation above the interests of groups or groups. Such an attitude of heroism is what every Indonesian citizen wants to have, especially for the young generation of the nation's next-generation during the Covid-19 pandemic. For the sake of fighting an invisible enemy called the Corona Virus (Covid-19), there are many heroes in this country. Among them, there is a hero figure complete with clothes similar to the astronaut clothes he wears. They are health workers who deal directly with Covid-19 positive patients even though they know that their lives are at stake. Therefore, they are considered heroes in the frontline. However, is it true that health workers are heroes at the frontline? This is because there are many opinions that people are at the frontline of fighting Covid-19. On this basis, this paper seeks to explore several news articles related to the Covid-19 hero to identify whom the real Covid-19 hero is based on the study of media texts through critical discourse analysis.
