Abstract


Abstract

The presence of superheroes in fiction is a magnet that always teases fans. The existence of these superheroes is a reflection of the imagination that blends with the author's expectations in creating characters who have abilities and strengths above the average human being. This research is a literature study that focuses on American superheroes that have similar patterns as a basic rule and are often carried out in the process of creating a superheroes character, as well as the depiction of the city of New York as a center of world power. The purpose of this study is to find similarities in the patterns of superhero creations in American superhero comics which are then transferred to the realm of movie in an effort to provide an Americanization influence for his fans. The theory used is semiotic analysis and is supported by the approach of popular culture studies to support this research. This research uses descriptive qualitative method by using some superhero characters and settings raised in comics and movies from two famous comic giants in America namely Marvel and DC Comics. The results obtained from this study are the basic concepts of superheroes and the American symbols that are inserted in the story are a real form of the concept of Americanization. This concept seems to show and state that America is a superpower country. The process of creating a superhero story is a real concept of shaping American ideology as a form of modern popular culture.
