THE EFFECT OF MOBILE APPLICATION ON ENGLISH SPEAKING LEARNING

Abstract


In recent years mobile technology has been developed for academic purposes. Traditional academic environment is shifted to e-learning because of the wide use of mobile wireless technology. As the advancement of mobile applications is increasing in function, Indonesian college students can use the applications to assist their English learning. Mobile applications create more opportunity for students to improve their English ability. Thus the study investigates the use of a mobile application in English speaking learning. Speaking skill is an important part in English learning since it is a productive skill which involves communicative performance and other vital elements such as pronunciation, intonation, grammar, and vocabulary. This research studies the college students’ speaking performance after using a mobile application introduced to the learners in class. It examines whether the application affects the speaking learning in the foreign language acquisition and to what extent the students use the application to develop their English speaking skill. The qualitative data from students’ speaking rubrics revealed positive results in students’ speaking learning.
