Abstract
China is the new world that face to face challenge the domination of America in all aspect today. since china’s economy surprisingly poke the nose of America’s economy, the conflict of interest between these two superpower countries has been rapidly increased. Film as one of media for disseminating though and ideology has been playing important role to increase respect the position of America and China as superpower country. This paper tries to analyze China’s identity and hegemony against America’s hegemony as portrayed in IP Man 4 film. The method of this research is qualitative study with Multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis (MCDA), the groundbreaking work of Kress and Van Leeuwen in Reading Images (1996) and Multimodal Discourse (2001) as Approach.
The result of the preliminary research shows that what is called by American exceptionalism is a criminal according to China. The superpower of America was portrayed as arrogant and often looks down on other races. Chinese martial arts become a mainstay weapon for the Chinese race to conquer America's determination. Kungfu is a unique martial art that China has and is a symbol of supremacy for the Chinese race in fighting injustice committed by white Americans. Through Kungfu, China is described as able to defeat America. Kungfu as a humanism symbol is able to determine American capitalism.
