Abstract

Dhemit”, is one of the plays written by Heru Kesawamurti, a theater artist from Yogyakarta. “Dhemit” tells about the development in an area, which is at the expense of its environment. With the reason to make the improvement of the region, the natural environment that should be preserved, eventually suffered damage. Nature has the law of equal interaction. When one takes care of it, nature will give its results. When one destroys it, nature will respond even more cruelly.

Every literary work, including drama, has intrinsic elements. The intrinsic elements are theme, mandate, plot, conflict, dialogue, character and characterization, and setting. However, in every drama, there is a message the author wants to convey to the readers and audience. This particular message will be discussed later in this article.

To maintain the balance of nature and the environment, it takes people who care, heroes who are able to put up a fight or resistance to environmental crime. The destruction of nature and the environment is something that must be resisted. This resistance must be done because of the importance of nature's preservation and balance for a better human life. Destroying nature will damage human life in the future, since human survival is very much determined by nature and the environment.

This research is qualitative descriptive. In this research, qualitative information is described thoroughly and analytically. It described forms of destruction of nature and the environment in “Dhemit”, as well as forms of resistance to the destruction of nature and environment.

The approach used in this research is descriptive qualitative. This approach was used to interpret the deep meaning of the literary works under study, in its relation to community life. This was based on the assumption that literary works are the embodiment of people's lives. Thus, the interpretation of the meaning that exists in this literary work is an embodiment of the meaning or values that exist in society. In terms of the author, he is also part of the community. Whether he realize it or not, the pattern of his life is greatly influenced by his surrounding environment.
