Abstract

A mental clause demonstrates a configuration of a senser, mental process, and phenomenon and performs processes of sensing through five senses and thinking. Dealing with this process, this research is aimed at exploring heroic expression configured in Lampung language clauses. Here, heroic expression is defined as construction of feeling and thinking related to struggle, sacrifice, and bravery and then it is uttered and expressed through oral or written ways. Thus, this research investigates this expression which is oriented to the mental process. Accordingly, this research investigates the structure of heroic expression on the level of clause. Furthermore, to have natural source, data were taken from six lesson books of Lampung language. The chosen parts of those books are essays talking about national figures and heroes (national figure and hero themed essays). In closing, it is found that heroic expression is performed in three types of mental process; they are perceptive, affective, and cognitive. Perceptive configuration deals with five senses, while affective configuration defines feeling. Besides, a cognitive configuration construes process of thinking. It is also found that mental process is also formed through affixation process. Furthermore, this research is supposed to be an alternative way to preserve this endangered language.
