Abstract

ABSTRACT

Background: Uncontrolled blood pressure accompanied by serum lipid and uric acid levels in hypertensive patients can lead to a high risk of cardiovascular events in the future. This study aims to determine the relationship between serum lipid profile levels, glucose, creatinine, and uric acid in patients with hypertension in Palu, Central Sulawesi.

Methods: This study was an observational study with a cross-sectional design involving 36 adult hypertensive patients who were routinely monitored at a health facility during February-May 2021. Data were taken from the results of laboratory examinations during visits and analyzed descriptively and analytically.

Results: It was found that 20 (55%) patients with hypertension still had uncontrolled blood pressure. 16 (44%) had complications of diabetes mellitus. Laboratory parameters showed results above the normal limits for the average levels of total cholesterol (207.97 mg/dL), triglycerides (159.83 mg/dL), and Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL) (145.03 mg/dL) and below the normal limits for High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) levels (33.86 mg/dL). There was a significant relationship between uric acid levels and diastolic blood pressure (p=0.048).

Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between uric acid and diastolic blood pressure of hypertensive patients in Palu City, Central Sulawesi.
