Abstract

The objectives of the research were to determine: (1) the differences in the effect of training using free weight and gym machines on fat percentage, (2) the differences between high and low VO2Max on fat percentage, and (3) the interaction between free weight training and gym machine and VO2Max on fat percentage. The type of research was a 2 x 2 factorial design with 38 members of Fitness Soen Barbell Sleman as the population. The sampling technique of the study was the Slovin formula involving 28 people. Multi-stage Fitness Test and Skinfold Caliper were used as the research instruments, followed by two-way ANAVA data analysis technique to analyze the data. The results showed that: (1) There was a significant difference in training using free weight and gym machines on fat percentage. The free weight group was better than the gym machine group. (2) There was a significant difference between members with high and low VO2 Max in the fat percentage. Members with high VO2Max were better than members with low VO2 Max in terms of fat percentage (3), and the last was a significant interaction between training using free weight and gym machines VO2Max (high and low) on the fat percentage.
