Drug Use Utilization of Supplements in Covid-19 Patients at the Santa Elisabeth General Hospital Purwokerto

ABSTRACT

Introduction: COVID-19 is a disease that has spread around the world since March 2020. One of the therapy for COVID-19 patients is supplements to help support immune system. This study aimed to describe the use of supplement therapy in COVID-19 patients hospitalized at the Santa Elisabeth General Hospital Purwokerto.

Method: This study was an observational study with a descriptive cross-sectional design. Data collection was conducted retrospectively based on medical records of COVID-19 inpatients at the Santa Elisabeth General Hospital Purwokerto in April-October 2020. Data in this study were analysed descriptively.

Results: The results showed that the percentage of COVID-19 patients at Elisabeth Hospital was 52.5% female and 47.5% male with more patients under 60 years old, as many as 87.5%. Supplement therapy administered to 40 samples showed that the use of supplements included Vitamin D 23.85%; Zinc 23.85%; Vitamin C 23.08%; Curcuma 22.31%; Multivitamins 5.38%; and Vitamin B 1.54%.

Conclusions: This study indicated that the most widely used supplement therapy in COVID-19 inpatients at Elisabeth Hospital was Vitamin D and Zinc with a percentage of 23.85%.
