ABSTRACT

Introduction: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a multi-system disease that can affect children with bronchopneumonia. Antibiotic therapy is required for patients with co-infection with pneumonia-causing bacteria. Administration of antibiotics is recommended in severe cases of COVID-19 and does not recommend routine administration of antibiotics in mild cases of COVID-19. This study aimed to evaluate antibiotics therapy in pediatric COVID-19 patients with bronchopneumonia from case reports.

Method: We reported three cases of pediatric COVID-19 patient with bronchopneumonia aged 1-3 years who came with complaints of fever, cough, shortness of breath, cold and sore throat in RSUD Banyumas. The results of the clinical examination, AP thorax, and RT-PCR nCoV 2019 showed results in accordance with the diagnosis given.

Results: In this cases the patients was given 2-3 types of antibiotics in different times which showed signs of improving body condition which can be seen from the clinical examination. The results of the RT PCR test showed that one of three patients had a positive result after the third week of treatment and the other two had a negative result.

Conclusions: The results of the evaluation showed that the antibiotics therapy in pediatric COVID-19 patients was rational in accordance to the COVID-19 management guidelines.
