Abstract

Background: Older people are highly susceptible of SARS-COV-2 virus infection. However, low level of health literacy is a major concern among older people, particularly those living in rural area, as it leads to poor preventive behavior. Therefore, factors influencing health literacy need to be examined. This study aimed to identify factors influencing health literacy among older people living in rural area regarding Covid-19.

Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design. A total of 106 respondents living in Ambarketawang Village who selected using consecutive sampling technique participated in this study. Health literacy was measured using the HLS-COVID-Q22. Health information access, family support, and health care service utilization were measured using questionnaires adopted from previous studies. The data were analyzed using multiple regression linear.

Results: The score of health literacy was 57.87 (32.07-77.03). About half of respondents (46.2%) accessed Covid-19 related information from television and radio. Majority of the respondents had a moderate level of family support regarding Covid-19 prevention (70.8%) and did not utilize health care services during the pandemic (67.9%). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that information access and family support were significantly associated with health literacy (p=0.003 and p=0.001 respectively).

Conclusion: Information access and family support influences Covid-19 related health literacy among older people living in rural area.
