Abstract

Nursing professional students majoring in nursing Unsoed are faced with a dilemma: if learning is completely online, they will not get clinical skills, but with Practices in hospitals, they have a risk of exposure to Covid-19. Uncertainty during the pandemic causes anxiety, including for students of the nursing profession. The study of coping strategies and anxiety is needed to find out how the description and relationship between these two variables are in nursing profession students. Through this research with research design explanatory mixed method, quantitative data is known, then from the quantitative data obtained, it is followed by collecting qualitative data to get a deep understanding. The results of this study indicate that there is no relationship between the two variables with a value of > 0.05. Based on the qualitative test, five themes were obtained, namely: 1) Nurse profession as an opportunity to learn and gain clinical experience, 2) Uncertainty is something that increases anxiety, 3) Self-motivation and a good support system (friends and family) reduce anxiety, 4) PPE and health protocols always protect themselves from Covid-19, and 5) Transmission of Covid-19 to nurses occurs outside the hospital. The decision to reduce professional nursing students to practice areas requires careful preparation and clarity because this is most felt by students and has implications for increasing anxiety. Support system support also needs to be good on the inside and the environment, including clinical and academic counselors.
