ABSTRACT
Introduction: Choking is a condition of respiratory obstruction caused by a strange object that can lead to the breathing difficulty and even cause death due to the lack of oxygen. Most cases of choking are experienced by children under five years old. This study aims to know the effect of demonstration health education methods using Short Education Movie (SEM) media on the level of mother’s knowledge in the first aid of children
Method: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre and post-test without using control group design. The study was conducted at a community of mother’s toddler in Central Java. The sample used 35 samples with a consecutive sampling technique that met inclusion criteria. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire about choking. Paired T-Test performed the analysis.
Result: The results of the study showed that the average value of the pretest was 15.59 and the posttest was 19.26. This research showed a side-effect of giving health education methods using Short Education Movie (SEM) media on the level of mother’s knowledge in the first aid of children with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0,05).
Conclusion: There is an effect of the demonstration health education method using Short Education Movie (SEM) media on the level of mother’s knowledge in the first aid of children Keyword: Health Education, Demonstration, Short Education Movie, Choking, Knowledge.
