Description Of The Student's Adaptation Process In Online Learning During The Covid 19 Pandemic At The Faculty Of Health Sciences Jenderal Soedirman University

Abstract


Background: The global COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the learning system changes at Jenderal Soedirman University. Since the online learning implementation in March 2020 students experienced anxiety. However, after doing further research in some period of time it has been proven that students already adapt to the new learning system.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the process of student adaptation to  learning system changes in the Faculty of Health Sciences, Jenderal Soedirman University during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Methods: The design of this study was a descriptive study used purposive sampling technique with a sample of 201 students. The adaptaion data  were collected using a questionnaire that refers to Stuart Adaptation Theory specifically in Coping Mechanism. The data analyses provide frequency and percentage.

Results: The result show that majority of students was 20 years old (41.8%), female (86.1%), semester 6 students (63.2%). Most of them majored in Nursing (27.9%) and also were dominated by students who came from the province of Central Java (54.7%). The study also showed the percentage of coping mechanisms which is used by student. Student in faculty of health science more often using Task-Oriented Reaction (75.1%) compared to the percentage is Ego-Oriented Reaction which was low (64.2%).

Conclusion: The students highly used Task-Oriented Reaction rather than Ego-Oriented Reaction in adaptation process.
