Specific Periodization of Martial Athletes: Profil Analysis Performance Endurance, Speed, and Explosive Leg Power

Abstract


Periodization is a strategic step in developing an athlete's training program to produce the top physical condition. At the specific preparation stage, athletes must have good quality physical condition performance. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the physical performance of athletes, especially the components of VO2Max endurance, speed, and explosive leg power of athletes running an exercise program in a specific preparation stage. This Study method uses a descriptive analysis approach, and as many as 40 (men; age: 21.83±2.22) martial athletes who are members of the provincial training center were involved as research samples. The results of this study indicate that 47.5% of athletes dominate the speed test results in the excellent category, 30% are dominated by the explosive leg jump test results in the good category, 25% are dominated by the explosive leg jump test results in the superior category, and the VO2Max endurance test with the excellent, and good category. Meanwhile, 12.5% and 2.5% of athletes are very poor than the results of the VO2Max endurance test and explosive leg power. This study concludes that the average performance of VO2Max endurance, speed, and explosive leg power of martial arts athletes who carry out specific preparation periodization is included in classifying the excellent category. However, there are still some athletes who have a very poor category classification. This research is expected to be a helpful description and reference for coaches in identifying the performance of the athlete's physical condition, especially in the components of endurance, speed, and explosive leg power, as well as formulating, designing, and planning the next stage of the periodization.
