Stress Levels in Working Women and Their Coping Efforts When Working From Home in the Covid-19 Pandemic

Abstract


Background : The COVID-19 pandemic has had many impacts not only on health, but also on the economic, social, tourism and mental health. Working mothers, for example, may be affected, as they dread bearing a double load when working from home. The purpose of this study was to determine the stress level of working women and their coping efforts when working from home during the Covid-19 pandemic. Methods : This research is an analytic study with a cross sectional design. The number of samples involved in this study were 280 working women with inclusion criteria working in the formal sector. The variables studied were education level, marital status, socioeconomic, assistance in managing household activities, number of children, and number of householders, levels of stress, anxiety and depression. The questionnaire instrument used to determine stress levels used a standardized questionnaire, namely the DASS (Depression Anxiety Stress Scales) 21 which had been validated. coping strategy questionnaire using the COPE Brief Questionnaire. Data analysis was done by t-test and one way ANOVA. Results : Based on the analysis, there are differences in levels of stress and depression based on income. Women who feel economically deprived are more stressed and depressed than those who earn enough. There are differences in marital status and income with status anxiety working women. Meanwhile, the coping done by women working is done with avoidant and approach coping. Education about mental health for vulnerable groups such as women is important to reduce mental health problems during the COVID-19 pandemic.
