The Effectiveness of Health Promotion Based on the Health Belief Model Approach on Covid-19 Prevention Behavior Among The Elderly

Abstract


Introduction: The Covid-19 morbidity and mortality rate, especially in the elderly, has increased. However, at the beginning, Covid-19 could start by taking preventive measures if you comply with health protocols, namely wearing masks, keeping hands with soap and keeping a distance. Early prevention of Covid-19 can be increased through health promotion efforts. Health promotion through the Health Belief Model approach can improve Covid-19 prevention behaviour in the elderly. This study aimed to analyze the effect of health promotion programs based on the Health Belief Model on increasing Covid-19 prevention behavior in the elderly in Ledug Village, Kembaran District, Banyumas Regency.

Method: This research method used quasi-experiment pre-post test with control group. The sampling method used simple random sampling. The calculated sample size was 72 eldery. Data collection tool was a questionnaire consisting of prevention Covid-19 behaviour. Data analysis used paired t-test and independent t-test.

Results: The results showed health promotion through the Health Belief Model approach significantly affects of Covid-19 prevention behaviour in the elderly.

Conclusions: Behavior change can be done with health promotion efforts. The Health Belief Model (HBM) can be used as a framework for health promotion to prevent Covid-19 in the elderly.
