Abstract

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on economic changes and access to health services, which can further lead to nutritional problems in adolescents, including chronic energy deficiency (CED), anemia, obesity, and reproductive health disorders in girl adolescents. This study aims to identify the impact of COVID-19 on the nutritional status and reproductive health of girl adolescents and to examine the factors that influence it.

Method: Cross sectional study was done from May-July 2021 which included 43 adolescents girls aged 10-16 years old. Cluster random sampling was used to select the adolescents girls. Primary data were obtained from the results of anthropometric measurements, questionnaires and 24-hour food recall. The questionnaire consisted of sociodemographic questionnaire, Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS), Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) and Parental Healthy Eating Attitude. The data were analyzed using the Chi Square and Fisher Exact test.

Results: There was no significant differences between independent variables (stress scale, body image scale, peer influence,) with nutritional status (p-value>0.05) among adolescent girls in rural areas in Banyumas District during Pandemic. However, the result showed adolescents who had low parental influence tended to have higher proportion of being overweight.

Conclusions: The result showed that parents had tendency to influence the adolescent girls’ nutritional status
