Abstract

During the last decades, Sudan's consumption of wheat increased as a result of the high rate of population growth, the increased migration from the countryside to the cities, the support of imported wheat prices and the change in the pattern of consumption. The danger of increased consumption lies in the deficit of local wheat production to cover it, which prompts the state to cover this deficit with imports, which constitutes a burden on the state budget and the economy as a whole. This paper mainly aims to study the consumption of wheat in Sudan during the period 1998-2020 and to determine the short and long-term relationships between consumption and the most important factors affecting it using the border test methodology. The study relied on secondary data. The study concluded that there is a positive effect on the number of population, sorghum prices and inflation in the short and long term. The study concluded the significant impact of the unbalanced development programs.
