Abstract

Ultisol is one of the most widely distributed soils in Indonesia, which is generally infertile dry land.  Therefore, fertilization is an important way to increase upland rice production on ultisols. This study aims to: 1) determine the effect of various compositions of slow release coating fertilizer on the growth and yield of upland rice on Ultisol, 2) determine the effect of applying coating on the growth and yield of upland rice on Ultisol, and 3) determine the effect of composition of slow release coating fertilizer izer on N uptake of upland rice on Ultisols. The design of the the research was Completely Randomized Block Design (RAKL) with a factorial experiment with 2 factors. The first factor is the slow release coating fertilizer and the second factor is nano zeolite and humic acid coating. The data obtained were then analyzed using the F test with a level of 5% and if it showed a significant effect, the DMRT (Duncan Multiple Range Test) further test was carried out with an error level of 5%. The results showed that the composition of P1 fertilizer (zeolite 200 mesh, 20% N) was able to give the highest yield on the variables of plant height, fresh root weight, fresh crown weight, dry crown weight, total tiller number, and number of productive tillers. The composition of P4 (zeolite 200 mesh, 20% N; zeolite: husk charcoal = 1:1) was able to give the highest yield on the weight of dry grain harvested and dry weight of stored grain. The composition of P5 (zeolite 200 mesh, 20% N; zeolite: husk charcoal = 2:1) was able to give the highest yield on dry root weight and 1000 seed weight variables. The application of coating gave better results compared to non-coating fertilizer for all observed variables. The application of slow release coating fertilizer with a P5 composition (zeolite 200 mesh, 20% N; zeolite: husk charcoal = 2:1) with a coating was able to increase the N uptake value better in rice plants when compared to other fertilizer compositions without coating.
