Abstract

Being a hero is something that people have constantly in their minds, whether being a hero to themselves, to their family, or even to a wider scope -- their people. Therefore, if you see a hero symbolized in a movie, they must contain a message full of meaning. They will show information about how the hero is represented in the culture and perspective of the community. Hence, in this study, 2000s movies with heroism as their theme from two countries, namely Indonesia and China, will be compared. The purpose of this study is to explore the symbol of heroism in Indonesian and Chinese movies. The process of collecting data is conducted by analyzing the intrinsic elements of the movie, and then the datum obtained is combined by analyzing the extrinsic elements of the movie. It is hoped that this study can provide more information about the similarities and differences between the two countries in their view of heroes, hero images, ideologies, perspectives, even the culture of heroism in both countries. Thus, it opens new horizons for the development of cultural information exchange between Indonesia and China.
